Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York

I am subbing an apartment in a coop building and my landlord informed me that I have to move because their is a two year limit to the amount of time he can sublet. He did not tell me about the two year limit when I moved in. I found another apt and moved in two months before the lease was up. The landlord wants the rent for the months the apt is vacant. Am I responsible for the remaining months.

Yes, if you signed a lease that goes to the date for which he is seeking the rent.
