Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in New York

Harassment or scumbag?

My kids and I were entering a new auto dealership to pick up our new car.A salesman approached me and asked if he could help with anything,I said that we were there for a pick up. He asked what we were picking up,my son relpied our new car.He whispered that a woman with kids entering a dealership could pick up more than just a new car. Is this considered harassment or just a scumbag?I reported him and was told that he would be fired and he is still employed there. Thank you.

Re: Harassment or scumbag?

New York has a law that prohibits sexual discrimination (which includes sexual harassment) by places of public accommodation (which would include a car dealership). You can file a complaint with the state government agency that enforces this law, that is, the New York State Division of Human Rights ["DHR"].

To learn more about the DHR, including the location of the office nearest to you, check out http://www.nysdhr.com. You do NOT need to hire a lawyer to file a charge with the DHR.

Good luck.
