Legal Question in Traffic Law in New York

no standing sign

We turned right at an intersection from a 2-lane street into a 3-lane avenue. We were on the rightmost lane on the street, so we turned on the rightmost lane on the avenue. Close to that intersection (10 feet),

there was a bus stop, and a bus stopped there getting passengers. All lanes, by the way, were stopped, because there was a traffic jam, and the lights were stopped (red). We stopped right after the bus; it was not even in front of the bus stop itself. We couldn't go anywhere because of the traffic jam. There was no ''no standing sign'' anywhere close. We couldn't pass the bus, because the bus was in front of us, and we wanted to turn right at the next street. The officer gave us a ticket for ''no standing'', but we were actually stopped because of the traffic ahead of us and becuase of the light. Would that technically be a violation?

Re: no standing sign

Your explanation seems very plausible. You can answer the ticket by pleading "not guilty," and demanding a supporting deposition (very important).
