Legal Question in Traffic Law in New York

ticket error

i got a ticket for speeding in a 30mph zone. ticket narrative says'' over 30mph/ no posted sign'' the boxes for ''mph'' and ''in mph zone'' are filled as 30 and 51 respectively. My 1st qs is, ''did the office fill in the speed and zone information incorrectly?'' should it have been mph =51 and '' in mph zone '' = 30. if it was incorrectly filled. 2nd qs is ''what are my options at this point?''

Re: ticket error

The purpose of the ticket is to give you notice of the charges and enable you to prepare a defense against those charges.

Not having seen the ticket, I can only speculate that the policeman is alleging that you were driving 51 in a 30 zone with no posted signs. If that is more or less clear, then the ticket (on this point) may be valid.

However, there are many other points on which the ticket may be invalid because the policeman filled it out badly. If he was sloppy here, then he may have made a real error that would cause dismissal of the charges. Or maybe this error is sufficient if it is not obvious that he is charging you with going 51 in a 30 zone.

You are welcome to a consultation. Email is best to make an appointment.
