Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York

value of investment funds

When is the value of investment funds belonging to the deceased determined? Is it date of death or date of probate, or something other than that? Thank you very much.

Re: value of investment funds

As the saying goes, different strokes for different folks.

Assets are valued as of the date of death for accounting and tax purposes (although an alterante valuation may be made for estate tax purposes).

For distribution purposes the money obtained on sale or the value at the date of distribution is pertinent.

Investments held by a decednt on July 1, 2002 lost value until sold.

You have to explain what your concern is.
