Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York

Letter of Administration

I received a letter from my mother lawyer(she recently deceased). I must fill out a leter of Administration for my father.(she did not have a will).

I have to sign two letters:

One states. X Letter of Administration X That a bond be dispensed with

The other states X Letter of Administration X That a bond in the amount of $500,000 be posted and hereby specifically release any claim I might have under any bond that may be filed.

SInce my father, brother & sister failed to inform me of the date to meet with her lawyer, I have no idea what it is that I have to sign. I have tried to get intouch with her lawyer, but I haven't been able to as of yet. My family told me to sign these documents as soon as I revceive them so that my father can have possesion of her house. Should I just sign these papers?

Re: Letter of Administration

This cannot be answered without my knowing your family relationship. It appears your father is seeking to be appointed administrator of your mother's estate without the filing of a bond to guarantee his performance. If you have no objection then sign. Good luck.
