Legal Question in Employment Law in Nigeria
Good day, i wish to seek legal advice in respect of an emplyment issue with a bank in Nigeria.
1) i had scaled through all the stages of the aptitude test and interview.
2) One of the Human resources staff communicated to me that my offer letter was been processed.
3) i submitted all my pre-employment documents to them as requested .
4) I was given a letter indicating that i was one of their employee to do a medical test in one of thier hospital.
5)Upon the clean bill of health from the hospital i dd a profiling test
6) i also had a chat with one of the senior officers who needed me for his unit.
7) In the course of my interview/chat i indicated and told them the reason why i left my former employee that my appointment was terminated over a loan facility and that i had no complicity in the loan .
they requested for a copy of this letter and its was scanned to them.
However all efforts to get the appointment letter has proved abortive
what are my legal rights against the bank
1 Answer from Attorneys
Its impossible to determine your legal rights without an offer letter from the bank, but judicial opinion in Nigeria are to the effect that an employee can hire and fire whomever it so chooses as long as it is not in breach the person's contract of employment/offer letter.
As an aside, I wonder whats the content of the letter terminating your previous employment, do you think it would affect your chances of employment in the future, have you sought legal advise on this?
