what age can the child make a decision in NC to live with a parent?

There is no set age. Preference of the child is just one factor for the court to consider and may depend on the child's maturity and the reason why the child wants to live with one parent over the other. Generally though, the older a child is the better the child's chances and the greater the weight that the court will give to the child's preference.
