Legal Question in Family Law in North Carolina

I'm a husband and baby may not be mine

I think my wife is about to give birth to a child that's not mine. We are having problems so I don't even want to deal with it right now, so I'm going to claim the child. But if we end up divorcing, can I find out if the child is mine using tests? And if I find out it's not mine, will I have to pay support? If we split later, I want the scum cheater that got her pregnat to be required to pay support, not me.

Re: I'm a husband and baby may not be mine

Once you claim the child as yours and take care of it and support it, it is next to impossible to avoid support, even if you later discover the child is not your biological child. If you "split" later, it is likely you will have to pay child support and the "scum cheater" may get a free ride. BUT, if things work out with you and your wife I wouldn't worry about it-just accept the child as your own.

Good luck
