Legal Question in Family Law in North Carolina

It's been over ten years...

Hi it has been 13 years since i had a son . when he was three the father and i separated we were never married and i had a child from a previous marriage. He wanted to take our son with him and i was fine with that. But before our son was ever born we had a verbal agreement if anything ever happend to us he would take the child and raise it without asking for any support from me, because i did not want another child... So here it is 10 years later and i reicieved a letter from Social Services for child support.. I do have a wittnes to what he said '' he said that he would never ask me for anything ''because he wanted to be a father so bad ... Please help me Thank you for your time...

NC uses the "best interest of the child" standard. With that said, you cannot contract away child support if that is not the child's " best interest"
