How can you find out if a judgment has expired in NC?

Judgments never expire. Judgments can be executed upon for 10 years after the date of entry. Contact the clerk of court in the county where the judgment was entered to see when that occured. Before the 10 year expiration, the judgment can be renewed for another 10 years.

Even if the 10 years has expired, this does not mean that the judgment goes away. It doesn't and the only way to resolve it is by (a) paying in full; (b) reaching a settlement; or (c) filing bankruptcy.

The judgment can also be listed on your credit report for 7 years from the time it was entered.
