What rights does a renter have when they are approx. a month and a half behind in rent and the lease is up and the landlord doesn't want to renew?

Landlord does not have to renew plus landlord can evict tenant for non payment of rent.

Based on the lease, there might be a certain amount of notice that landlord has to give before evicting a tenant for holding over, or not paying rent but the lease would need to be reviewed. Landlord can also give ten day notice for not paying rent and then bring an eviction action on that basis.
