Legal Question in Real Estate Law in North Carolina

transfer date

I work for a charity that recently received a percentage interest in a farm property in North Carolina. What is the official date of gift? Does the deed have to be recorded before the transfer is official? Thank you.

Re: transfer date

The official date is when the deed was signed and delivered by the donor to the donee. The deed does not have to be recorded before the transfer is official, however, recording the deed gives superior title to any other individual or entity having a claim over the realty.
