Legal Question in Criminal Law in Ohio

keyed & scratched

My friends car got keyed & he is thinking of pressing charges , but is leary about it. He doesnt want this person to go to jail but does want him to pay for damages.What is the jail time thise guy will get for keying my friends car in Ohio?

Criminal damaging of this sort is probably going to be a misdemeanor offense. Most likely the Judge would impose a fine, order restitution and there would be not jail unless the person has a record of other offenses.

Your friend could also get an estimate of the cost of repair and take the guy to small claims court rather than press criminal charges. If the person is admitting that he is responsible maybe he woul sign an agreement to pay for the damages.

Depends on the amount of damage done which will help determine the level of the charge. If I assume it will be a misdemeasnor and there is NO OTHER RECORD a suspended sentence with probation, restitution would be a realistic expectation. THIS IS ONLY A GUESS as I have very little information to work with.
