what age can a child choose a custodial parent?

location is:

summit county courts, akron, ohio

parents have joint custody

child is 14 years old (only child)

child is with Father T Th Sat

child is with Mother S M W F

father pays mother $40/week support

to mother

child has been asking to live with father

full time and visit mother on weekends.

child is with grandmother 90% of

mother's time.

child spends 100% of fathers time with

him.

child is mature with no disabilities or

handicaps

does a case like this go throught

mediation, or does it have to go to

court? mother says father will have to

take her to court because she'll never

agree for child to live with father.

please advise. thank you.

There is no age in Ohio where a child may make a binding choice as to custodial parent. The child's wishes are only one factor as to what is in the child's best interests.
