Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio

owe money from divorce settlement

My husband agreed to pay 250 dollars a month in his divorce settlement to pay a portion of what his house was worth. he owes a little over 2000 dollars still but lost the job he had at the tome and now makes less than half and now has a family to support. he went to court and they denied his motion to lower payments. she did not agree to it. he has been paying her 50 dollars p month. what will happen if she files contempt for not paying the full amt per month?

Re: owe money from divorce settlement

It sounds like there are a few issues here. Your husband should attempt to get the amount that he has to pay reduced. If his ex takes him to court for contempt then he will have to argue why he should pay a reduced amount.

I would suggest that you retain an attorney to attempt to reduce the monthly payments. You do not want to wait until she files a motion for contempt.

I would be more than happy to assist you in this. Feel free to contact me for a free consultation.

Hope you have a great day.
