Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio

Single mom looking for answers in joining son and father together, without being

My situation is a little complicated. My son Connor is 3 yrs. old. I lived in Akron Ohio from 4/98-3/99. In Sept.98 I got pregnant. I realized that Iwas not in-love with my sons father,(Jeff). So I called off the relationship, because of that he became cold and acted like he wanted nothing to to with our child if he couldn't have me too. But he was bitter at the time, and I had moved out to Ohio from California by myself so I was totally alone. I was afraid to have my son in Ohio, thinking that out of spite Jeff would use legal action to keep me from leaving the state with our son, yet still offer no support either finacially or emotionally, and I would be stuck. So I left to come home to Ca. Now my son has been asking the typical questions ''do I have a daddy? Who is he? And where is he? So I called Jeff. He said that he is willing to work with me in raising our son.

It apprears as if a good thing is potentially happening for you. Many times single mothers have to chase the father for any type of support. As long as the father is not a danger to your son, it probably is important to have him in your son's life. However, experience says that you are probably wise to be alittle weary. --Talk to the father, if he apprears to be for real, then I would suggest talking to an attorney for the purpose of drafting a parenting plan for custody/visitation and support. It is smart to lay out an agreement that both parties agree with now so there is no misunderstandings down the road as to who gets which holiday or how much the father should pay for support.--The agreement can then be taken to court and signed by a judge and become a court order. If you have any questions, I would be happy to discuss the matter in greater detail with you. Please free feel to give me a call.

Your problem is not unusual. First of all it should be his responsibility to reenter into a relationship with his child. Secondly, dad is an earned title and a father is merely a biological detremination. Third, it would be my suggestoin to call a psychologist to ask for suggestions as to how to handle the questions.

Good Luck.
