Legal Question in Traffic Law in Ohio

Defending against BMV error.

I was pulled over and got a ticket for driving on a suspended license. This confused me as I have had no violations in three years. The only thing my wife and I can figure is last Sept. we received an audit to show proof of insurance on a vehicle. We sent in the required paperwork and heard nothing again. We assumed it was done, and to further that thought in our minds was that we change address and got the new registration and sticker renewal just one week before this incident. Now I am facing a trial date and possible 60 days in jail and 1,000 dollar fine and was advised to get an attorney. I make a modest living and don't have the expendable cash to do this. What are my options?

Thank you.

Contact the BMV - rectify everything with them - get your license back - plead not guilty at your first appearance, show your license to the prosecutor at the first pretrial and tell the whole story -
