It is a US Supreme Court case which holds that a defendant has an absolute right to have a judge determine whether or not his/her confession is voluntary and thus constitutionally admissible in a trial to prove guilt. If it is found to be involuntary, then it cannot be introduced at trial; the opposite is also true.
