Legal Question in Family Law in Oregon

What do I need to do to guarantee my sons father cannot have any visitation or custody rights for my son? We were never married, and I have a signed piece of paper from his father stating he turned his rights over to me. It was not notarized and he has been absent from our lives for 11 years. He happen to stumble upon me yesterday online and he did not know it was me until I said something to him. Do I need to go to court? Do I need to seek an attorney? I have never asked for child support this entire time. What rights does he have? My son is 12 and he said he does not want to have anything to do with his father and he said he wants him to leave him alone and stay out of his life.

Only two ways by which by which it can be guaranteed that your son's father cannot have any visitation or custody rights. First, the father dies. The pretty much solves the problem. Second, the child is adopted by some other man, who then becomes the "replacement father," with the previously-existing father then having no further legal rights and no further legal obligations.
