Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Pennsylvania

Patriot Act discrimination

Below is an e-mail I recieved from a student loan provider. It states that based on the Patriot Act they will require copies of certain information (explained below). I have had various dealings with other similar companies and that has never been asked. Is what they say allowed under the Patriot Act? I am American born, but of Middle Eastern decent. Is it discriminatory for them to do this?

''Your [student loan privider's name] loan application has been credit approved.

During the application process, it was determined that we need to verify your identity in accordance with the USA Patriots Act. Therefore, your immediate action is needed to verify your identity and prevent your application from being cancelled.''

Thank you

Re: Patriot Act discrimination

I'm not sure of the answer because you didn't indicate what they asked you for. If whatever they asked you for is not required by the Patriot Act and they are only asking you for it because of your name, that would be discriminatory.

Can you please be more specific? And, you should ask them what section of the Patriot Act (by number) requires them to ask for what they're asking for. Once they tell you, it can be looked up to verify.
