stolen property responsibility

if something is stolen from my property, but it belongs to someone else, and the person who had his property stolen told me to leave my doors unlocked so he could get it, am i responsible or is he?

You asked about stolen property.

In almost any situation you would not be responsible for the loss unless you formed a bailment with the owner of the goods. In other words, unless you had a duty to protect and keep safe then you have no liability.

Further, under the situation you describe it seem inappropriate to hold you responsible. But what the hell would you leave doors unlocked no matter the situation?
