final inspection

i finished building the house for the clients. i'm waiting for my final payment after the final inspection, but the owner decided to finished the basement with another contractor and he doesn't want to take the inspector before the basement is finished . do i need to wait for my money , it's not in the contract, he should pay me after finishing the job.but another problem he tells me i got delay 2 weeks so can make me some problems

I hate when this happens. Home construction problems are not fun.

You have a written contract. Good. What the contract says, is what it is. There are some exceptions, but mostly the contract controls. If it says you have to wait, then wait; if not, then the homeowner is wrong.

It sounds like your customer is getting ready to give you a hard time.

You may want to place a lien on his home; there are STRICT time limits, and you should get a lawyer's advice to see what you are able to do.

And get ready to do a little fighting for your money. A nasty letter from a lawyer may slow this gentleman down, and get your payment.
