Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania

Letter of Settlement

On 10-7-04 I made a settlement with a creditor for a reduced payoff that would leave me with a 0 balance. I paid them over the phone by check. They said I would receive a letter of settlement in approx. 3 weeks. It is

12-6-04 and I have not received a letter of settlement showing a 0 balance. I have requested this 4 times. The last time I called they were hateful to me and said they had 30 days to send that to me. Well, it's been almost 60 days. I really need this letter. Are they not required to send me some kind of receipt showing a 0 balance, and how long do they have to send it to me. I hope you will answer my question as I have searched everything I could think of to find the answer with no results. Thank you for any advice you can give.

Re: Letter of Settlement

If they continue to report the debt unpaid to the various credit bureaus when in fact you have made payment they may be committing the tort of defamation. A polite letter suggesting that you will refer the matter to an attorney if the settlement letter is not forthcoming within a week well could get their attention. I offer free consultations.
