Legal Question in Criminal Law in Pennsylvania

Drunk Driving

My sister drove her car home last night while intoxicated. When she woke up this morning she discovered scratches on her car and has no idea where they came from. She does not want to be liable for hit and run, but she doesn't know what she scratched her car on. It could have been another car or it could have been something else. What should she do? Should she report what happened to the police or just wait to see what happens, if anything?

Re: Drunk Driving

If she calls the police, she will be giving a story like "I may have hit something. I don't know what or where." That would leave her open to being accused of hitting anything that was hit. I understand the fear of being accused of hit and run or leaving the scene, however. I can't advise that she shouldn't report it to the police, but I'm not at all quite sure what she would be reporting under these circumstances.

Re: Drunk Driving

In additional answer, you didn't indicate what the "scratches" were, how big they are, if there is a huge dent in the car, what it looks like she hit. (car, pole, wall, person??)

You could go back on the route that she probably took to see if you can see anything and go from there.

If she knows that there is something to report, then she should report it.
