Legal Question in Discrimination Law in Pennsylvania
Rights of students involving vegeterianism??
This might seem like a foolish question but, My daughter is a vegeterian and uses no aminal products. I know schools now don't force children to disect frogs and was wondering if there are any cases I can bring to the school so they stop forcing my daughter to use leather items. She was very upset because in gym she had to use a leather glove. I have bought her a man made glove but am afraid this is going to continue with other sorts. The tacher actually told her he should bring in his hunting pictures when she told him her problem with animal products. I'm not sure what her rights are in this I consider it a moral right. Thank you for any help you can give me.

Re: Rights of students involving vegeterianism??
Yours is an unusual question, but I think the answer lies in the intent of the dissection law that you cite. I'm not sure if there were court cases which preceded it, but perhaps they would be of some guidance as to her rights. Perhaps the school would be willing to talk about accomodation of your daughter's sincerely held beliefs.
