Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Pennsylvania

How do i get my money back?

My boyfriend and I have lived together for almost 3 years. The house is in his name but I have paid half of the bills since we have moved in together and helped him save money for a down payment. We are no longer together but I am still living with him until I find another place. How do I get the money back that I have given toward the mortgage and all other bils? There was no written agreement, just a verbal one.

If the two of you agreed to be husband and wife before January 1, 2005 you could assert a common law marriage and ask for relief under the divorce code. If not, you will have to look to contract remedies. Verbal contracts are valid; but difficult to prove. In addition to your testimony you'll have to scrounge around for supporting evidence; like bank statements, canceled checks, notes, letters---anything that supports your version. Maybe you could also file a lis pendens and gum up the title; if your agreement was that you were supposed to get an interest in the house.
