The Family Medical Leave Act requires covered employers to grant time off for serious injuries or illnesses to employees who are eligible under this law for such leave benefits. If your doctor has certified that you need time off for a serious illness or injury, your employer generally must accept your doctor's excuse unless it obtains a second opinion. If the second opinion conflicts with your doctor's opinion, then a third opinion may be required. You should consult with an attorney about your rights under this law.
