Re: real estare

If you own the property free and clear, then your mother-in-law cannot sell it if she moves out. I assume that when you say you bought the house, you mean that you legally own the property today. You and your mother-in-law should have signed a purchase-sale agreement, she should have signed and notarized a deed transferring the propertys title from her to you, and you should have filed that deed with the countys recorders or deed office. I am also assuming that your mother-in-law did not have any outstanding liens on the property, such as a mortgage or unpaid judgments, when she sold it to you. If all those things are true, then you own the property and she cannot sell what she does not own.

You should go down to your recorders office and ask to look at the deed for your property. The last deed should list you as the owner.

Good luck.
