Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Pennsylvania

Real Estate Question

Is a verbal agreement of sale on a home legally binding? In a nutshell: I wrote up an official offer on a house, it was countered by the owner, I countered back, the owner accepted thru his real estate agent, thru my agent. I was notified of the agreement at noon and was called at 5 PM saying ''someone ''beat me to it''

Is this legal? It is my understanding that we are in the official process of ''offer, X ammount of days to counter, X ammount of days to close, etc.'' This has all taken place in the span of 6 days and I feel I am getting screwed here.

Thank you.

Re: Real Estate Question

No, according to 33 P.S. 1 which states that a contract for land must be in writing. This law went into effect April 10, 1772.

Actually it states it in a much more complex manor but for this case that the gist of it.
