Slander is not a criminal offense. Hence the only thing one who is slandered can do is sue. It is not an easy thing to do. A non lawyer ought to seek out a lawyer who will handle the case for him. Some may do it on a contingent fee, but most lawyers will want to be retained or may work out a melded fee (part contingency part up front retainer) to handle the case.
