Need advice on I believe an unfair sentence

My brother was sentence a few months ago to 8 years we had a lawyer but of course did not do the greatest job. He does have a prior record, when he was stopped by detectives they force my brother to let them into his home, he ddn't want any prolbems he led them there they found unloaded firearm. Is this sentence fair?

Sentences are based, in part, on prior sentences. Gun charges have a variety of minimum mandatory sentences (in Massachusetts) depending on the particular offense. I can't tell you whetehr the sentence was fair or not without knowing all of the facts of the case, however, your brother has the right to appeal his conviction and sentence and should talk to someone about this.
