How do I obtain custody of my child who lives in Rhode Island but who wants to live with me in Florida

As father of the child you need to file a petition seeking physical placement(physical custody) of the minor child. You need to allege that there has been a substantial change in circumstances and that it is in the best interest of the minor child to live with you.

After you file the Case, The Rhode Island (RI) Family Court will set the matter down for hearing. You should probably request that the child speak with the judge or Rhode Island Family Services or a guardian ad litem.

The amount of weight that the Court will give to the childrens desire to live with you depends on the age and maturity level of the children and the stated reason that the children want to live with you.

I strongly suggest that you retain a Rhode Island, Family law and Child custody law attorney / lawyer.
