Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Rhode Island

Lease

Hello, I am a tenant here in providence rhode island and just have a question about my fiance and i signing a rental agreement that was verbally stated as a month to month, and suddenly turned into a one year lease that was unbreakable. my fiance and i were shown this apartment under false pretenses, and told many things about this apartment that was not true. we were told that it was a great neighborhood, had police living in the building, ect ect, and we come to find that there is actually drug dealing going on on the first floor of our building. we are trying to break this supposed ''lease'' that we werent informed of, and my fiance and i both know we did not sign anything that said ''lease'' on it, we know we signed a month to month agreement. Im wondering if i can get some advise on what to do about this. thank you very much.

Re: Lease

Your question suggests many possible legal and factual issues.

Our firm has extensive experience with landlord tenant matters. I would be willing to sit with you and your fiance for a brief consultation - no charge - to review the documents you have and your rights.

You may call my office if you would like to take me up on the offer. I'll first need to know the names of all parties involved, to make sure we have no conflict.

In any event, though, best wishes,

Scott Summer
