Legal Question in Criminal Law in South Carolina

checks from a closed account

someone wrote about $3000 in checks on a closed account. How much trouble is he in. He has two warrants out for his arrest. one is a bench warrant. i was told by a deputy that if he came into the sheriffs office and set up a court date that he would not be arrested. is this true or was he just telling me that so this guy would come in. he has no criminal background. is jail time mandatory for this type of crime? he now has a job and is married with 4 kids.

Re: checks from a closed account

If he has warrants for his arrest, then he will be arrested. I can't tell you how much trouble he is in because I don't know what the charges are for. I assume they are for wrting the checks. Jail time for these are not manatory but possible. Have him contact a lawyer. A lawyer can set up a time to be arrest and have the procedure processed so as to take as little time as possible and have a bondsman available.
