Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina

Age for children to decide

I have 2 children ages 10 and 12;they do not want to go see their Dad every other weekend because he constantly pressures them on who they want to live with (I have primary custody). Their Dad talks ugly of me around the children, their stepmother is hateful and they have overheard her say she don't want them to come back. They said that they don't feel welcomed there. They are too afraid to say anything to their Dad because he will just fuss at them and make things worse. I have checked with our sherrif and he said I could be in contempt of court if I refuse to send them. I have been told by a friend that at age 14 the children don't have to go see their Dad if they don't want to, is that correct? If so what steps do we need to take? Thank you

Re: Age for children to decide

The only choice you have is to obey the order of the court. If you want changes in the order, retain a lawyer and go back to court.
