Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina

Am I a bigamus?

Hello, in 1999, years ago, I married in another country, came to the USA the day after I married and never saw my ''husband'' again ... I met someone else, fell in love and when it was time to talk about marriage, I called the embassy of the country I had married, they told me that since the marriage had not been ''Internationalized'' {or whatever she called it, it was a term that meant making it legal elsewhere} I was not technically married... now here's the tricky part, I actually married my now husband, and almost one year later, my first, international husband showed up ... with divorce papers from the USA ... so, I signed them and we got divorced ... but I had married my second and current hubby already! So, my question is, are we really married? I know this is confusing, but we always talk about it and don't worry too much, but I guess it's good to get this out of the way and find out, thanks!

Oh, one more thing, marriage 1 was issued in Venezuela, marriage 2 was issued in VA, divorce was issued in FL ... thanks!

Re: Am I a bigamus?

From the information you provided, it sounds like the safest thing for your and your current "husband" to do is to get another marriage license issued and to get married again, just to ensure that you are now currently legally married and to avoid confusion down the road.
