Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in South Carolina

Probate inventory

My Dad passed away in Dec.2005.The probate court tells me that they are waiting on a inventory of my Dad's estate which is now past due from his second wife. Could you please define inventory for me? Car,trucks,garden tillers,land,firearms,home,ect? Also,myself and my sister are his only blood relitives left. He had no will.Can his wife give away his personal property and is is his step children included in his estate?
