Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Tennessee

Creditor will not correct credit report

In 1/06, I went to the ER. In Mar, a rep from the hosp called me about the remainder of the bill - after insurance - of $342. He insisted I 1) pay the entire amount now, 2) pay half now, half in 3 wks or 3) pay $50/mon. I tried to tell him I couldn't do any of those, that I had 11 other med bills I was paying on. He never even gave me a chance to tell him how much I could pay/mon. I started sending them $25/mon. They still sent me to collection. On 12/31/06, with my yr-end bonus, I pd off all of my med bills. The coll agcy reported 3X in 06. The last time was in Oct showing a ''seriously past due amount of $192''. I have since asked the cred rep agencies 3x to verify that this is valid and they have come back every time that it is. I have talked (in Apr) to the coll agcy who promised they would correct the reporting. They still have done nothing. What can I do to get this fixed? I am not asking them to take it off but simply to show that the debt has been pd in full.

Re: Creditor will not correct credit report

The report only shows what has been reported to them. The creditor is the one who has to request for them to show it paid in full. Your fight is with the collection agency that hasn't reported that you paid it all off.
