Legal Question in Family Law in Tennessee

Father weekend visitation of Autistic child after age 18

Is there a law in Tennessee to help the mother of an autistic child after the age of 18 for the father to be made take the child for weekend visits at least once a month to give mother a break. The child requires constant babysitting care but no special needs other than that. Or does the father have full freedom from this once the child reaches the age of 18 disabled or not.

You may have more rights than you know. You really do need to contact a family law attorney to see if your child is "disabled" under Tennessee law and whether the father has a duty to pay you child support even though your child is over the age of 18. If so, and he is not exercising reasonable visitation or parenting time, there is an argument that the child support should be increased to assist you with caring for him or her. I doubt you can force a man to actually visit his child, but perhaps your attorney can help you find a way for him to pay for not visiting. Best of luck. MR
