Unfair discipline at work

My wife was questioned at work today about an incident that occured at her work which she witnessed (happened in the same room) but she was not a part of. several fellow coworkers had been eavesdropping on phone calls from management in the building. During this questioning she was led to believe that she had been videotaped doing this along with her coworkers. After stating several times she had not participated in the activities of the others she was informed that she was being suspended w/pay for one day (called a decision day by the company) and being removed from her position in the accounting office. She was also told that if she refused to sign the write up she could be terminated (company policy does not state this). She signed the paperwork after writing that she was signing under protest and the threat of being fired. What are her rights in this situation.

The company can conduct an investigation and suspend someone with pay pending the investigation. It sounds she did the right thing by signing under protest.

She needs to pay attention to who is disciplined for this incident and who is not. If she is terminated or disciplined she needs to see if others with similar or worse behavior are handled the same. If she believes that others were treated less severely than she was treated, she needs to see an attorney.
