Legal Question in Immigration Law in Tennessee

Ok my boyfriend was arrested for failure to appear in court and we had court today 2/28/12 and he asked for a public defender and they gave him another court date set for 3/27/12 he is an illegal immigrant and had a hold from immigration so do you know how these cases work?
