holographic will

my mother did not take two houses through probate and change titles to her name. one from father and one from sister. they did not leave wills. she owned stocks jointly with sister which she did not change. my mother wrote a will leaving these houses and stocks. can she do this if she did not have these things in her name? thanks

Your message is not entirely clear. I do understand that your mother left a Will and that she owned property. If your mother was the joint owner of property with someone else and that other person has not died, the other person would acquire full ownership of the joint property. The Will cannot change that. The Will would leave to the beneficiaries named in the Will whatever property your mother owned in her individual name.
