Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Tennessee

Items in will are ''lost''

In a family member's will, I was named to receive her diamond ring. When the will was read and the executor was ready to disperse funds and objects, the ring was nowhere in the house. Is there any recourse to be reimbursed for the value of the ring? There was a sum of money ''left over'' to be divided between several family members.

Re: Items in will are ''lost''

One of the duties of the executor is to take an inventory of the estate. Also in many instances a bond is required to insure the estate against loss. If the ring was listed as part of the inventory and a bond was required, you should get the name of the bonding company from the Clerk and Masters office; contact the bonding company. If no bond was required, let the attorney who represents the executor or the estate know of he missing asset. Also inform the Clerk & Master of the missing asset.
