Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Creditor refuses payment, threatens to sue

Earlier this year, I attempted to make payment on a medical bill that had been turned over to a law firm for collection. The firm refused my payment (which was sent to them by my debt management counselor) They replied that they would only take the full amount, which I cannot afford. I wrote them explaining this to them, and never heard from them...until today. I recieved a certified letter demanding immediate full payment or face a law suit. If they refused an attempted payment, can they do this? Please reply.

Re: Creditor refuses payment, threatens to sue

A creditor has no obligation to accept installment payments for a debt which was not set up that way in the begining.

The consumer has no right to modify the terms of the understanding with the creditor without permission.

The debt is owed in full if it was incurred that way in the begining and partial payments are properly refused if that is the creditor's decision.
