Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas

i need alot of help
im being charged with a felony of criminal mischief i been indicted and i was told by a detective to hire an attorney and have him go wit me to my arraignment next friday. so i have one now i havent spoke to him yet till tomorrow what should i tell him? the detective said that the case could be deffered what are the chances of this happening if this is my first EVER offence? i am willing to pay for the damages done i just dont want this to be on my record! i want to become a cop and if this felong dont drop my career dreams are all down the drain! please help me on what i should do!
