Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas
Can a defendant provide collateral for own bail?
A family member has been arrested for probation violation and failure to appear in court. His bail is to be set at a minimum of 25,000. I am not comfortable cosigning for a bail bond and don't own anything for collateral. The family member in jail owns property. Can the defendant's property be used as collateral for the defendant's bail bond?

Yes -- the bonding company can prepare the paperwork. If not, then discuss with his attorney. His attorney may also be able to get the bond reduced.
