Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas
My nephew was arrested last night in Denton County Texas. When he went before the judge this morning to set bond, he apparently got flustered and said no he did not need an appointed attorney. The fact is, he cannot afford an attorney. Will he be given another opportunity to request a public defender or did he waive his right? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Sara

Yes. He needs to complete an application for a court-appointed attorney. The SO can provide it for him. The court will then notify him if he qualifies.
