Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas

Is suicide legal?

I am a student doing a paper on seat belt laws. I was wondering if suicide in the State of Texas is legal. I know, of course, it can't be prosecuted because of obvious reasons, but could a suicide attempt be prosecuted?

Thanks for the info.

Re: Is suicide legal?

It is against the law in Texas to aid someone in committing suicide. It is covered under Tex. Penal Code sec. 22.08.

(a) "A person commits an offense if, with intent to promote or assist the commission of suicide by another, he aids or attempts to aid the other to commit or attempt suicide.

(b) An offense under this section is a Class C misdemeanor unless the actors conduct causes suicide or attempted suicide that results in serious bodily injury, in which event the offense is a state jail felony."
