Legal Question in DUI Law in Texas

If you miss your court date for your first DWI, in Texas, class B misdemeaner, and its been about 8 months, but you now want to get the DWI taken care of, what other repercussions will add on to the fine for the DWI. Will the fine be greater? Jail time? Does it vary?

I am sure things vary in Texas. In my experience, missing your court date has more to do with your bond than with the outcome of your case. Your bondsman may want to go off bond, which means that you would have to go to jail until another bond is obtained. The court is likely to increase the bond.

My suggestion is that you hire an experienced criminal defense attorney to help you on this if you have not already done so. Even if there is a warrant out for your arrest, is possible for you to walk into court, and resolve the case with a plea bargain. Once you are sentenced, there is no bond. The only problem you might have is that if the court called for your bondsman to pay the amount of the bond to the court you would owe that to the bondsman.

Your attorney could find that out for you as well and may be able to fix it.
